You all are welcome. Ron Johnson is my Senator.
I heard his explanation, in articles and on local talk radio this morning, but I don’t buy it.
He said that an extra federal holiday would cost the federal government $600 million. As a CPA, I have no idea how that could derived. Yes, it’s a lost day of productivity, but productivity is not really relevant for FedGov because federal workers don’t create value (products or services for money.). Since the government doesn’t hire replacement workers to make up that day of lost productivity, there are no added out of pocket costs for a paid holiday.
Anyway, he may believe that, but I think he’s sucking up to the mob and it’s mysterious and sudden disdain for Christopher Columbus. The problem is the mob will give him zero credit or quarter for siding with them.
I’ve never had a paid holiday for Columbus Day, Presidents Day, MLK Day, so I don’t have skin in the game and certainly don’t want to argue on behalf of federal or state employed or bankers. Fuck ‘em all. But I despise having a politician pissing on my leg and telling me it’s raining.
I say get rid of all federal paid holidays. Or get rid of Labor Day. Why the fuck are we celebrating socialist labor unions?
