Spin Zone / Slow growth
« on: April 28, 2016, 06:39:59 AM »
The USeconomy grew at 0.5% last Quarter. That is anemic.

Just imagine the growth we would have if we didn't tax repatriated funds.  A trillion bucks would come scurrying home.

Spin Zone / Why do liberals thing the economy is good?
« on: April 21, 2016, 07:02:12 AM »
I keep hearing liberals say how good the economy is.
The stock market is up and unemployment is down they say.

Ok, the economy is fine for me.  Things look good for me.  So I should believe them, shouldn't I.

But there are fewer people working than ever.  Wages have stagnated.
Too many people can't survive without government assistance.  I see these as bad things.

But I'm a conservative so I  don't care about poor people (at least that's what I read in the paper).

And aren't liberals the one's that are supposed to worry about the poor people?  Then why do they keep singing the praises of an economy that squashes the life and respectability out of poor people?

You can't fix a problem until you admit there is a problem.  Government Assistance (or as I call them; government dis-incentive programs) are not fixing anything.  They merely permit the poor to exist slightly above squalor, but if those poor people try to improve, they lose all that assistance.  Most can't or wont' take that risk.

Liberals even admit that things like raising the minimum wage will hurt the very poorest because they will be put of reach of any job.  Why is that ok with them?

Huge corporations (Apple, IBM, Google, GE etc) have trillions of dollars off-shore that they wold have to pay 40% taxes on if they repatriate that money.  So they don't.  Why would liberals prefer that money to stay out of our economy rather than allowing those corporations to keep it if they bring it back?

I think I have the emotional capability of being a liberal if they could bring logic and practicality to the table.  A rich  economy can take care of the poor.  But a government that tries to drive a wedge between the rich and the poor is going to see a great divide between the rich and the poor.  Which is EXACTLY what we have today.

For some reason there are 28 pages of sealed documents that "may" allude to a Saudi connection in the 9/11 attack.  Conspiracy theorists have talked about this ever since members of the Saudi family being allowed to leave the country in secrecy immediately after the attack.

Will he unseal those documents?  I hope so.  I suspect GWB hopes not.

Spin Zone / Huffington Post says Kasich will be the nominee.
« on: April 09, 2016, 12:08:50 PM »
Of course, I don';t usually believe a word they say.  They are almost as bad as MSNBC and making shit up.

But it does make sense.

Spin Zone / Woud you vote for Kasich?
« on: April 09, 2016, 07:07:04 AM »
Since so many polls indicate that Kasich has the best (only) chance of beating Hillary in the general election; if it came down to it, how would you vote if Kasich was awarded the nomination?

I have been thinking this same thing lately.  I just think this country has too many good things going for it and that we really can do anything we set our minds to:  All we need to do is get rid of the socialist mentality.

But if you ask actual manufacturing executives, they’re far more bullish on America’s future than many of its political leaders. On Thursday, professional services firm Deloitte teamed up with the Council on Competitiveness to release its 2016 Global Manufacturing Competitiveness Index, showing that the United States is the second most competitive manufacturing economy after China. What’s more, global manufacturing executives predict that by 2020, the United States will be the most competitive manufacturing economy in the world.

Spin Zone / Naked links

Just a comment here.  I'm sure it won't change anyone's posting behavior.

But I tend to ignore links to news stories that do not include some sort of personal opinion attached and some sort of reasoning for me to open that link.  A short quote from the article or video and a comment about it will be much more likely to get me to click on a link.

I moved about 5 miles away to a new house.  Same City, Same Zip.
I changed my address with credit cards, driver's license, auto registration, magazines, FAA, health insurance . . .

It was that last one that pissed me off.  It wasn't my insurance company, but they said I also had to change my address with the Market Place.

I always hate using that web site so I decided to call them  I was on hold for around 4 minutes, and the entire call took around 18 minutes (the iphone reports total time).  Just to change my address they had to ask a million questions, including whether I was currently incarcerated, of any anyone in my family was incarcerated.  I had to listen to several very long disclaimers about how it is a Federal crime to use the system fraudulently and I had to agree each time.  They had to verify that my name is the same as on my SS card (which I haven't seen in 30 years).  The questions just went on and on.

We paid some telephone operator a quarter of an hour pay to change one address.  That might only be a few bucks, but how many times a day does that get repeated.  And why do they need to know if I am in jail in order to change my address?

Pilot Zone / Foreflight suggestion
« on: March 23, 2016, 11:57:42 AM »
It has been a while since I have seen an aviation related post here, so here is one:

Yesterday my wife and I were up in the Bonanza.  She asked where I would land if the engine quit right now.  I looked at my IPAD at the field I have for "nearest" airport.  We were about 3 miles SW of a private runway, but I couldn't find it.

My suggestion to Foreflight was that they make the contents of that field a hyper link that would paint a magenta line from my position to that nearest airport, and paint the extended runway center lines.  I said it would also help if they were to display some basic info like surface type (grass, asphalt ...) and runway length.  I'm not sure I'd put down on a 1,000 ft grass strip if there is another more suitable place, off airport.

What do you think of that idea?

Spin Zone / The problem with Cruz
« on: March 23, 2016, 06:39:24 AM »
Where I work, we used to have a really smart guy as a financial analyst.  He saved our company tens of millions of dollars. (we weren't a billion dollar company yet).  He found clauses in contracts that some of our vendors were actually embarrassed to have pointed out to them, and which they would remove.

HE was really smart, just like Cruz.

He was so smart that at one point, he was offered the CFO job, but he turned it down because he knew he wouldn't be able to deal with the responsibilities as well as he could deal with the numbers and the contracts.  So he turned it down.

In that regard, he was smarter than Cruz.  He knew that he was good a finding problems.  But he wasn't so good at working with other people.

I just don't think Cruz would be effective as President.  I think he would melt down faster than a snowflake in summer.

Trump has thin skin too.  But I still think he is more suited for the job than Cruz.  I even think Hillary or Bernie would be more psychologically suited for the job than Cruz.  I just think they would be great at destroying us, rather than themselves.

Spin Zone / Question for the Cruz supporters.
« on: March 18, 2016, 06:52:54 AM »
Tell me something that Cruz has accomplished that might make me respect him, or make me think that he can improve anything in any way.

Has he ever been in charge of anything that was a success?  Has he accomplished anything positive?

You guys speak of Trump's "angry white" supporters.  Who is any whiter or angrier than Cruz supporters?

Yeah, he talks a good game.  He had good grades in  college.  But what besides the scripted words that come out of his mouth make him any better than Obama?

I'm, willing to listen in case you can show me something I don't know about him.

They are two people I greatly admire.

I just think they are dead wrong about Trump.  And Cruz.

But I would still vote for 'Gimp for President if he would run.
