Spin Zone / Now that the vaccine is real...

Sadly, a POA thread addressing the question below would likely get locked pretty quick...

What's the goalpost for dealing with covid-19 so that we can resume normal ops?

Drive the annual death rate down to zero?

Drive the annual death rate down to approximately that of influenza (40,000 to 60,000 per year)?

Spin Zone / What is the opposite of pollyanna?

I'm struck by the we-are-all-going-to-die-this-is-absolutely-the-worst-virus-possible crap.  The magnitude of the pessimism is stunning.  Nothing is ever positive, everything is viewed in the worst possible light, extra points for gross exaggerations (but God forbid you call anyone on it!).

I know "pollyanna" is an excessively cheerful/optismitic person.  What's opposite of pollyanna?

Spin Zone / No fraud - but calls for fixing problems
« on: December 28, 2020, 09:11:06 AM »
I've been scratching my head wondering about the tortured/twisted thinking of some that deny election fraud happened while simultaneously claiming to want to fix the system.

If the presidential election was won fair and square, why would anyone need to expend any effort fixing things?

(I know, I know, I won't see any cogent response from the deniers)

don't be silly.

None of the "leadership" has the spine to take the "risk"

Spin Zone / The gentlemenly thing to do...
« on: December 13, 2020, 12:10:57 PM »
Wouldn't it be the gentlemenly thing to want to ensure that the election was valid?

Wouldn't it be the gentlemenly thing to want to ensure that you won by valid votes and not because people cheated?

Wouldn't it be the gentlemenly thing to disavow anyone cheating?

Wouldn't it be the gentlemenly thing to admonish all supporters to follow the rules?

3 Nov has come and gone, and covid-19 hasn't magically become irrelevaant.

Many here on pilotspin predicted that 3 Nov would bring an end to the covid panic.

The panic continues.

Spin Zone / Because this wouldn't stay unlocked for long on POA
« on: December 03, 2020, 12:32:32 PM »
I wanted to pose this on POA, but the snowflakes probably would get the thead locked pretty quick...

For the people who are reluctant to get a vaccine and also don't think covid-19 is as big a threat as various chicken little disciples claim, consider this:  If people get vaccinated, that will give top-cover for people to go back to normal ops.

If people don't get vaccinated, then we'll run the risk of politicians not giving up their power "in an abundance of caution"

Forget how effective a vaccine is or isn't, forget whether or not it is possible to get covid-19 again, forget about how low the CFR really is... we probably need a lot of people to get the vaccine so that the Nervous Nellies can stop cowering and start living again.

Now, don't get me wrong, there are people with legitimate reasons for being cautious about being vaccinated.  I'm considering the larger group that are reluctant because they don't want their arm to be sore for a few days or get a 72 hour headache.

Today's Gov Baker briefing talked about rumor mongering...  He wants people to use verified sources such as "mass.gov and media sources"

He views the media as a trusted source.

<sigh>

if I can be a bit pollyanna for a moment... even with all the lousy aspects of 2020, we still have a lot to be thanksful for.

So

I hope you all have a Happy Thanksgiving
