If it fails, as it surely will, then we can say "told you so" and stop proposing such inane policies.

It will fail, no doubt, but I would expect them to use the gun control approach: instead of giving everyone $1000, give them $2000.

Pilot Zone / Re: A Few Aviation Questions
« on: January 15, 2019, 03:53:00 PM »
How many times can a group rehash the same old questions? Either the community and conversations evolve or the community dies off.

Years ago I made this post to rec.aviation.piloting:

Like many who have lurked and posted here for long, I have noticed that
certain topics come up again and again, taking quite a lot of space and
often even starting up tired old flame wars.  Below is a system I
propose to codify first-postings.  I think this will be much easier and
quicker in the long run.  Like reading TAFs.  For example, how many
times have you read a (2,3,27) or a (16,10,11)?  Anyway, maybe someone
with even less of a life than I have can figure out what to do with the
responses.

Presidential elections would essentially boil down to New York, Ohio, Florida, Texas, California and the city of Chicago. If you don't live there, your vote won't really matter.

I fully support the electoral college system, but ironically, as a California conservative, my vote doesn't matter because of it.  We, like almost all states, are "winner-take-all", so my presidential vote evaporates into the ether while my mere presence here adds to the number of electoral votes that go to a candidate I would not vote for.

As has been pointed out many times here and elsewhere, dems want to eliminate the electoral college for the simple reason that if we did so, there would never be another non-democrat president.

It doesn't bother me when they kill themselves, but taking the family along with them is - shameful.

Agreed.  A similar story took place here in Watsonville not too long ago, where a pilot did just about everything possible to assure the destruction of himself and his family.

As a Californian, I don't understand the turmoil.  If the California government shut down, it would be a dream come true.

That would have a huge impact on the job opportunities for the middle and lower class, who are largely being shut out by immigrants who work for lower wages.

Ironic that in California, where the democrat party is hugely pro-union (some would say controlled by unions), democrats want to import scabs by the thousands, if not millions.

Ask your Democrat friends if they're willing to get rid of all guns and let Donald Trump declare himself Dictator?

That's a great idea! It has the added benefit of causing their heads to explode.

If those guys were to snap one day ...

This is the gun-haters' favorite fantasy.  In their minds, every gun owner is a latent maniac, just waiting for some triggering event to push him over the edge.   They can't even comprehend the notion that guns in the hands of decent, everyday people are not a threat.

The only fix I would make to the Second Amendment is to eliminate any reference to a militia.  "The right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed."  Very simple--and we won't have to listen to any more bullshit from the ACLU or other gun-haters who still claim that the right to bear arms is a collective one, not individual.

But, but...he apologized.  That makes it okay, right?

Edit:  Oops--2009.  Well, it's still perfectly in character for Chucky.

I believe Woodward, sorry.  Guy's got two Pulitzers, he's not going to sully a reputation that long in the building by publishing BS under his own name for short term gain.

For years I believed Lance Armstrong was not doping.

Spin Zone / Re: NFL kneeling. Next phase
« on: May 26, 2018, 08:03:14 AM »
How about a game penalty instead of a monetary one?  Such as--if anyone on a team kneels, that team doesn't receive its first kickoff or other first possession normally.  Instead, that team's first possession is on the team's own one yard line.  That way, the non-kneeling team members and even the fans would have some motivation to discourage kneeling.

And we all know criminals always register their firearms. Always.

If you are a felon, you are not required to register your firearms.  Since felons are prohibited from owning firearms, forcing them to register firearms would be forcing them to admit to a crime, thereby violating their 5th Amendment right against self-incrimination.  This is a US Supreme Court decision.  I am not making this up.

I'm not sure why someone who is a convicted felon should be eligible to run for any public office.

Bradley Manning is a felon; Chelsey Manning, so far, has committed no crimes.  No problem.
