Spin Zone / Re: Nose Ring Theory of feminism

reminds me of what me and my sisters learned as wee children.  Early on we learned to never tell our mom about a splinter, we just didn't enjoy Mom using a needle to remove the splinter.  We loved our Mom, and she wasn't mean or cruel about it, but we really didn't like it.
Yep.  Needle and tweezers.  Needle heated up over a match to sterilize it.  Then when the splinter is dug out she added a healthy smear of Mercurochrome.  Stung like crazy.  I'm not sure how we survived childhood.

Well, that’s new to me. You pencil lead people, why the heck didn’t you or someone or a doctor pull it out? Or are you trolling us?
I had one of those big erasers that stuck to the end of a #2 pencil after the tiny eraser wore out.  It never fit right so I thought I'd just force it on by banging it on the table (you can see where this is going).  Two hits worked fine, but on the third I lost my grip.  The pencil stayed upright on the table and my hand banged back down on the point.  I pulled it out of my hand OK, but the lead left a trace of black where the point stuck in.  Nothing in there but a trace of lead and a funny little black mark.

My wife says that I will never have a tattoo or anything pierced.  I'm OK with that.  Well... except for that pencil lead I have stuck in my palm from grade school.

Agreed.  Most people don't know what they're voting on.  They just go with whatever group they associate with.  We should do away with the "Vote all D (or R)" options on ballots.  People should at least make a little effort.

Totally agree.  At least have some sort of quick start manual.  Generally I think that if I can't figure it out right out of the box then it has a bad user interface.  But these days I need some sort of hint manual to figure it out.  NO, I don't want to look up the manual on the Internet.  NO I don't want to buy a subscription to use the thing I just bought.  Can someone PLEASE hire a native English speaker to write the manual?  Or at least check it over?  Run it through AI?  SOMETHING???  And get rid of all the warning labels saying don't stick the rake up my butt.  Those are the first things I cut off the power cables that get in the way when I try to plug the stupid thing in.  And would it hurt designers of the stupid wall warts to make the wire come off the side so it doesn't block the other plug?

And keep those kids off my lawn.

depends on what your investments are. I'm down 10%+
Friday wiped out my gains from the previous week, and then some.  On the other hand, my silver is up 50% from three years ago.

For now.  I do think that some sort of warp technology that bends space will someday be possible to permit interstellar travel.  The bigger thing is that we're not that interesting.  We really don't have anything that some alien race would want.  Unless of course we taste like chicken.

Correct, however, the real (unspoken) goal is to enrich and impower themselves.
THIS!!!

sigh.

I suspect you are right.
I suspect so, too.  See all the screaming on the MSM from the usual suspects that this is a political vendetta against Trump's enemies.  "Never before in history has the DOJ been used to go after political opponents."  What a short memory they have.  They should go fuck themselves.  And not in a good way.

If enough people buy into the "closest election in history" lie, then it's just one small step away from "Russia helped Trump steal the election" so he's not a legitimate president and all steps are valid for stopping him.  ALL steps.

The left is nuts.  And they are desperate.  And they are dangerous.

just playing devil's adovate (sorry lucifer), some claim that there can be a "desert" of grocery stores in certain "poor," "disadvantaged", whatever, areas.  So I'm not sure what stores would be forced out.
It's not a total desert.  There are little mom and pop corner bodegas that sell mostly packaged and chemically preserved "food".  They have very little fresh healthy food.  This is an attempt to get actual food into those areas which isn't a bad goal.  But making it government run and cheaper than existing mom and pop stores will force them out.  Maybe making sure that the existing stores have real food is a better way to go.

What a wonderful idea:
Quote
"Publicly-owned grocery stores can be structured to prioritize community benefit over profit, enabling lower prices, better food access, and stronger local sourcing, and may operate independently or in partnership with non-profits, cooperatives, or private operators," the order states.
So they operate at a loss, force out the current grocery stores with lower prices, all to benefit NGOs.  Yeah... great idea.

Yep.  But then we have our government funding these scam institutions while they sit on enormous endowments.

And then look at some of the people that were paid huge salaries to "teach" at these places.  Yet another joke.  Seriously, could you imagine sitting through a class with something like Elizabeth Warren teaching?  Or Paul Krugman?
Totally agree with idiot celebrities being paid to "teach".  It's nothing but payback.  Like paying hundreds of thousands for a Clinton to speak for 15 minutes at a conference.  That pay comes from donors, laundered through the university.

The endowments shed interest that is used to pay chaired professors.  That's one way to attract the best researchers and teachers.  Generally the endowment base is locked up and cannot be touched.  The government funding is usually research grants like NSF grants for specific projects.  Much of the research is silly feel good sociological research.  But there is cancer research, space research, and other research in the hard sciences that's pretty real.  It makes sense to have top academics getting grants to do the hard research.  So yeah, let's screen the research and see what's actually going to benefit humanity and get rid of the stupid stuff.
