However, I try not to taxi either flaps down. I’ll clean up after I turn off the runway and raise flaps for taxi

In days of yore, and maybe even still, taxiing with flaps down was an indication to ATC that you have been hijacked or otherwise were experiencing "unlawful interference".  Nowadays I suspect that it would generate no more interest than an automobile alarm.

Let's have a reality check here.

Fine--you win.  You may now continue to whip yourself into a frenzy over shit you have no control over.

We picked up seats in the House rather than losing them as projected.  If we field a candidate for President with good solid conservative creds, solid experience and a mouth filter, I think we will win in 2024 by a land slide.

I don't think I would go so far as to predict a landslide victory, but I think the Rs have a fighting chance.  As you point out, there were conservative gains in the House (close enough now to make Nancy nervous) and evidently the Senate has not been lost.  Also (just my opinion here) the only reason Trump lost this election is that he is a jackass personally.  He unapologetically pisses people off right and left, figuratively and politically.  By any objective standard he is a pretty good president otherwise, and probably could have gotten a few democrat votes if he had at least made some effort to play nice (even if he was lying).

No one in his right mind could have voted for Biden thinking that he would be a good president.  And look who becomes president if/when he fails--did Harris get even one percent of the vote in the primaries?  No one, not even the vast majority of democrats, likes her.

So pour yourself a drink and remain calm in the knowledge that Biden will not be able to get much done (executive orders notwithstanding) without the Senate.  But he better eat his Wheaties and stay healthy, because a Harris presidency would be an unmitigated disaster.

Or just go watch Buffy the Vampire Slayer for a few hours as escapism.

Personally, I'm drinking.  That worked for me in 2016, when the next morning my wife, who stayed up to watch the returns, said "You need to go read the paper."

"Huh?"

"Just go read the paper."

They're reporting preliminary results on TV.  I thought they couldn't do any reporting until after the polls closed in the west.  What gives?

I predict that Trump will lose big in California, but because of his court appointments I still hold out hope that we will, at least, see some of our absurd and draconian gun laws nullified.  If Trump wins re-election, he may get to replace Breyer, too.

I’m trying to remember if I’ve seen any Biden signs around here at all. But then I’m in the middle of oil refinery country.

I have seen only a couple of Biden signs here in Santa Cruz county, California.  (This is, I would venture to say, one of the top five most liberal counties in America.)  Anyway, I always wondered why anyone would bother--Biden can't possibly lose in California.  One guy who put up hand-painted pro-Trump signs had problems with his signs, vehicles, and house getting vandalized.

I don't know if I have ESD, but this election can't be over soon enough for me.

So if Schultz goes in for an annual, and no one notices he traded his rifle for a Krag, does he still know nothing?

Who cares about the popular vote?

In 2016 I thought it interesting (and a bit sad) that some people were saying that the electoral college system gave the small states too much power, when, in fact, that system was put in place precisely so smaller states would not be lost in the noise and controlled by the large states.  The election of 2016 was a demonstration of why the electoral college system exists.

Note that I am not an expert and this is not legal advice.

Hey, this is the internet--EVERYBODY'S an expert.  Anyway, I agree with your reasoning.  Technical legalities notwithstanding, no one would be able to show that the plane was out of annual.  In the past I have had situations where everything was done, no problems, but the mechanic said something like "I'm very busy right now so it's going to take me a day or two to get to the books, but you're fine to go fly."  I have never done it, being too paranoid to fly the plane without having the signoffs.  I have a hunch that our reasoning may not hold as much water as we think.

btw - one year, the IA and I managed to complete the annual inspection on my Cherokee 140 in less than 24 hours... from the time I started to remove the panels for him until the time he signed the logs and returned it to service.  In other words, a simple aircraft without any repairs needed can be done pretty quickly.

Thanks, everyone, for your replies.

My plane also is a Cherokee 140.  I always open everything up so it's ready for inspection, and then put it back together when it's done.  This year the mechanic charged me for six hours of labor--not too bad.

Pilot Zone / Semi-hypothetical annual inspection question
« on: October 24, 2020, 01:46:45 PM »
An airplane's annual inspection is due in October.  This means that the owner has until the end of the month to get it done. (Yes, I know that most start their annuals at the end of the month so the new annual is signed off at the beginning of the next month, thereby getting 13 months out of their previous annual.)

The work is begun in the middle of the month, and the mechanic finishes the job in a day or two, but is lazy about the logbook writeups and signoffs.  Question is, can the owner fly the plane anyway, since the old annual is still valid?  Or does starting a new annual somehow start a new clock running that invalidates the old annual?

Biden is coming off as an asshole, very condescending.   Not a good look.

It doesn't really matter, I think.  I would guess that most people (by far?) who will end up voting for Biden will do so because they would vote for ANYBODY but Trump.  I also would guess that the same thing holds true for Trump voters.  Many will vote for him just on his merits, but there also are those who will vote for him just because he is not Biden.  I guess I fall into both camps.
