The differences between then and now are huge.  But from my perspective, most of the progress has been due to white people doing what they thought right. 

I'll give Martin Luther King Jr. an exclusion from that.  I think he worked miracles and gained a ton of respect for black people.  Even if it did take years to phase in.  But groups like #blacklivesmatter are in the business of erasing those gains.  And so is Kaepernick.

Look at what has happened with his speeches. He has recently been giving fairly cogent and concise speeches that are having an impact. Outcry mattered, and he changed his ways. If more of his supporters held him accountable for his words and actions, he might just win this thing. There is a difference between kicking him in the ass when he fucks up, and taking every single damn opportunity to portray him as the second coming of Lucifer (vague reference intended) and Adolph.

He has been ineffective.  Nobody is talking about what he wants to say, they're talking about him.  A protest is not disrespectful but there are disrespectful ways to protest.  He is suffering the fallout from it.

Then, because of his disrespect, he has lost any authority to bring attention to the things he cares about.

There are many gray areas with Trump.  The problem is there are many black areas with Clinton, and some people on this board can't or wont tell the difference, and feel it is more important to criticize Trump at every opportunity than to actually compare him to Hillary.

and lest anyone be confused.  I fully support having an attorney zealously acting in the interest of his client.  Where I apparently I differ from some here is that I believe that my attorney should do so legally and ethically.  The end does not justify the means.

Frankly, that is sufficient.

Hillary is an evil crook that will lockup the SC for years to come with liberal judges.  She will sell government access to the highest bidder for personal gain and she will further divide our country along racial and economic lines.  Her brand of socialism has never worked and it never will.

So "not Hillary" is good enough for me.

Trump is far, far, far from perfect.  He may even be dangerous, but I don't know that.  I think he has some of the right ideas and is willing to express them.  He knows how to make an organization move rather than stagnate.  And even if he does piss off a lot of foreign leaders, that is something we should not be afraid to do and perhaps if we stood our ground more in the past we wouldn't be in the position we are now.

So the hard-on for Trump continues.  I'll give you one thing Jeff, you are nothing if not consistent.  All of you hard work and distain will pay off nicely with another Clinton administration.  Gotta love the circular firing squad that is the Never Trump crowd.  Actively working against the only candidate that has a prayer of beating Hillary will never make sense to me.  What do you hope to accomplish by influencing others that Trump is an incompetent buffoon that should never hold the office of President?  Do you want the doormat to become President?
